Xanthorrhoea resinosa

Grass Tree

Xanthorrhoea are perennial monocots native and iconic to Australia, commonly known as grass trees. Most are very slow growing in environment (a bit faster in the garden) and can live for decades with very little maintenance. X. Resinosa is one of the shorter of the species, often with no trunk or if it does, will reach a maximum of 60cm. It has a blue tinge to its grass-like leaves and its flowers are cream or white. All xanthorrhoea require extreme care when transplanting and for the first month afterwards, read below for instructions. Sowing seed into its final position is the simplest and best method to a healthy plant.

Planting instructions

From Early Spring TO Late Winter

When transplanting from one pot to a larger one, or preferably to the garden, extreme care is required due to very fragile roots. A hole twice the depth and width of the current pot is required. Ideally the pot should be carefully cut into two whilst it is in the new hole as trying to pull the plant out will rip the roots. Water daily for a month, preferably with seasol every second day to encourage root growth. Gradually water less over 1 - 2 more months.
