I have a tiny farmhouse in rural PA w/ lots of fields & forest... I enjoy being surrounded by as many plants as possible, both outdoors & in my home!

@karisamuel Yep, it is called Ubi 'Summer Joy Apricot' 😊 I'm glad you like it!

@KariSamuel I think it's meant to be an annual... but we brought it inside for the winter & it just flowered again last week 😁

@aes239 how do u overwinter your purslane?

8w
comment
aes239

@Acetaker We live in PA ❄ so I'll have to bring them inside (along with about 15 other plants 😳) when the weather starts to get chilly. Just got the purslane this year so I don't know too much about it... Do u know if they're supposed to be dormant in winter?

@aes239 it like the Rose Moss that's in my pics. They both are tender plants, but they seed themselves. If u look on the Purslane the pods where your flowers are, there will be some open and show blk in the middle, those r seeds, take them and scatter in pot etc u have them in,I do the same with Rose Moss, which came bk this yr in various pots due to the winds carrying the seeds. I didnt take the Rose Moss in but it was protected from not wind directly. We had snow last yr,so it got pretty cold...Brr

@aes239 I think I'm going to do the same since I've been taking seeds and putting over into hanging pot that they r in,as I have been trying to ck them everyday or so to get them. I guess u could kind of call it dead heading. I hope my rambling made since.😊

@Acetaker Yep it made sense 😉 I actually just noticed the seeds (while also sort of dead heading) within the past week & started collecting them 😁

@aes239 these are Gourgous plants and will come back ea yr under the right conditions. They will get lg and if u have them in a pot like I do they will root bound but separate like I still have to do,be careful they r delicate, and u will have even lusher purslane. 😊

@Acetaker I saw some pics of your purslane, & I love the rainbow of colors! 🎨 This apricot one is the only color I've seen in person (aside from the more sprawling, weed-like variety with yellow flowers that grows as a weed around here) but yours look beautiful 😍

@aes239 TY! I'm getting ready to try a repot due to it being root bound. I will have to do it later afternoon when the blooms shut. ..Ugghh! It will look pitiful or different but o hope in the end I have 2 plants??😯😆

@lovestogarden There's a slightly different variety that grows wild in the garden, which sprawls out more & doesn't look quite as nice...

We consider this invasive in gardens here. I know it's edible, but how and where do you have it planted??

8w
comment
aes239

@KariSamuel I just have this one plant, which is confined to a pot to keep it from spreading. I know it's considered a weed in lots of places, but I think it's a neat looking plant, & it gets these cute little peach-colored flowers 🌺

KariSamuel

Just a misunderstood weed then?? I may pull some, and get it in a few of my pots!

8w
comment
aes239

@KariSamuel Yep, the invasive kind ("common purslane") that generally grows as a weed has yellow flowers, whereas mine grows apricot-colored flowers... but aside from that, the 2 look almost identical.
