Found three big monarch caterpillars today on my swamp milkweed. Can’t figure out where they have been hiding, I check the milkweed almost daily. To big to be from Monday’s monarch visit. Happy to see them!

IDK where they came from but maybe they weren't on the milkweed and then they crawled on it but I love the photography.❤️🌹😍😊

So excited! First know visit of the monarchs this year. And she found the milkweed.

We went to Lake George a few years ago and loads of them were just on the shore - amazing! 🧡🖤

Lovely picture

They are a beautiful sight

This is an updated pic of the caterpillars on my milkweed. Some think it is sawflies. I think it is the tussock moth.

@afrank84 looks like some kind of hair now that they are bigger. @pixierose

You're right! They definitely do look like a caterpillar now. They were very deceiving when little, haha!

Too bad it's not covered in Monarch caterpillars 😔

@afrank84 I wish it was monarch caterpillars. The only butterfly I have see is a couple of the all white ones. My garden was so ready for them this year. 😥

Hopefully they will appear soon for you! I have only seen a few white ones too, but it's still too early in the season for them here. Another couple weeks to a month and they will start showing up. 😊

Yes those are tussock moths. I usually remove most of them leaving a few. Otherwise they will strip your milkweed & leave none for monarchs. Saw first Monarch today

I havent seen but only a few butterflies here so far. Hope they show up

@moore.794 I thought about removing some. But I have a lot of milkweed this year. Going to keep an eye on them for now. Most likely the birds will get ahold of many of them. I’m going to let nature do it thing.

I finally found some milkweed at a nursery. Last year the caterpillars ate it all before it even had a chance to from any flowers. And none of it returned this year. So I’m going to try this one in a big pot. These are already forming some buds.

Very young monarch caterpillar 🐛. I didn’t see the bigger one to day. Just two small ones. Hope he didn’t get eaten.

They are cute!!😊💕

Didn’t think I had any Monarch caterpillars this year. The milkweed didn’t bloom for some reason. But then I found this little fellow!

Beautiful looking caterpillar

How cute, especially his little feelers at the front

Swamp weed is starting to come up. I believe it was called Cinderella. And has pink flowers. Got it clearance last year end of season. So I'm excited to see the flowers for the first.
