I adore these
Me too Ruth. Sadly they always get eaten after they have cowered but it doesn’t stop them coming back every year to try again 🙄👍 @sushiwaitress

16 May 2018 • I need to enjoy these while I can...before the sawfly come visiting 😱
Beautiful plant 😁 I have one of these...should I be worrying about sawfly? What is that? @awomanonabike
It’s a caterpillar that comes and completely strips it of leaves and flowers. It happens in my garden every year. It doesn’t seem to do the plant any harm and other plants soon grow up in front of it to hide it but it always makes me sad 😢 @kayleighanne #sawfly
Oh dear how sad indeed 😔 nothing worse than a critter eating your plant!...I currently have a Lupin that will struggle to get to flowering stage as it's currently an "all you can eat" to the slugs 😭 I feel your pain! @awomanonabike
Oh the slugs love my lupins too but they’re doing much better this year with a combination of a copper ring, crushed egg shells and last year’s strulch. I think it’s the copper ring that is making the difference though @kayleighanne
Oh I see well that good news...I have tried eggshells already, plus a drastic pathetic attempt to keep them away with a tinfoil ring, it looked like a space ship! 😂 Cooper ring it is then! Fingers crossed! Thank you for the advice 😊 @awomanonabike
You’re welcome Kayleigh. They work really well and they keep from year to year. If you have some tin snips you can just buy a sheet or strip of copper and cut it to size 👍😊 @kayleighanne
J, with the copper ring thing, which I’ve never used, could I some how cut one to size for an oval shaped pot? I grow Trifolium Dark Debbie which I love, but so do the slugs and snails. Especially those tiny snails. Does the copper have to be all round the pot or just bits of it? Thanks everso x x x
It doesn’t have to be round the pot at all Claudia, just the plant. So you cut a strip an inch or so wide, long enough to go round the plant with a bit extra then use some grips to fold the edges so they can tuck into each other and either put it over the plant, if you can, or put it round and then fix the ends together. As long as the slugs aren’t already in the pot, jobs a good’un! I’ll post a photo of one of mine later @clipperty
Sawfly got to mine already 😔
😱 I hope they had already flowered Patsy as you’ll be quite a bit ahead of me in Essex @essexgardens
Further to chat on the copper post, I always thought the ring had to be outside the pot. I never cottoned on until now that that would be ridiculous 😆 #slowlearner x x x

So where did these appear from? I swear they weren't there yesterday.
Morning all! These have been wonderful this year. No sign of the sawfly 👏👏👏
Morning☁️ Jacqueline, very pretty
Morning 🙋♀️
I've noticed that this year around here they have looked the best I've seen them in a long while
Hi there Mark, thank you. Cloudy and blowing a hooley here. How about where you are? @solly1961
Morning Julie 👋 @juliesgarden
🤔 I wonder what it is that they are liking, or that the sawfly larvae aren’t? @carolgs
Wet and windy last night, cloudy earlier but now ⛅. Blimey it was warm over last few days. Had to keep an eye on some of my young plants, suffered in the intense heat.. cant complain tho, 🌞
Hot here too but now absolutely wild out there 🌬💨🌬💨🌬💨🌬 @solly1961
