When I'm not on my bike, you'll find me in my organic-ish garden in #Cumbria. Favourite plants? Wisteria, hellebores, peonies, philadelphus...

Let there be light…☀️ Sometimes you just have to go for it! I was getting to the point of thinking I should just dig this up. Yes it’s lovely and it flowers well 🌺 but it’s huge and in the wrong place, right at the front of the border. So #chopchop and now you can actually see the echinops! A bit scary but it looks a lot better for it #weigela #beforeandafter

Think that was a good decision Jacqueline. A hard one to make but worth it.

Thank you for the vote of confidence Nicola. It certainly looks better and much lighter 😎 @jendren

19 Aug 2019 • Managed to get this pruned a few days ago in one of the few gaps between high winds and torrential rain 🤷‍♀️ #weigela

Is now the time to do it?

Yes. You want to do it soon after it has flowered as it will flower next year on the new growth that it puts on from now on. I don’t always manage it as it seems to go on flowering forever 😃 but in truth it has usually pretty much stopped by now 👍 @sharonhayden

Oh ok thanks mine stopped flowering probably 2 months ago!

It will be very happy if you cut back the branches that have flowered to a healthy bud. If it’s quite old you can also take one or two of the oldest branches out down to a few inches above the ground @sharonhayden

Must get my mums done. It was being strangled by ivy, which I’ve cleared and it’s grown like crazy ever since 😁😁

I know! I didn’t do mine last year and possibly not the year before either as it just never seemed to stop, so I just had to lop a few flowers off too 🤷‍♀️ @rachelbrooks

4 Jun 2018 • The #lysimachia might be a bit of a thug but I quite like it with the weigela 💕🖤💕

I’ve planted lysimachia this year Jacqueline - must keep an eye on it. Thanks for the warning.

Beautiful 😍 Have you had any rain lately? We are dry as bone for about a fortnight now and streams are getting very low.x

Have you planted this purple leaved one Nicola or the green leaved one? The green one is even more of a thug 😳 @jendren

We had some yesterday and overnight on Friday but didn’t get much. I think it’s been very random. Hardly any in May at all 🤔 @Diane76

Hopefully I’m ok. I’ve planted punctata Alexander. I’ve read up on it and it says it’s a less aggressive form. I’ll be keeping a close eye on it thanks to your warning.

OK, it's maybe not looking at its best but neither would you if I'd cut your hair. At least I can now see daylight
