I'm mostly into cacti, aloes, and other heat tolerant succulents, and more recently hoyas and some tropicals. Phoenix, AZ. USDA zone 9b, heat zone 11.

I didn't expect the flower in back to pop open for another day or two! The color is sooooo intense, but doesn't come across in photos AT ALL, on either cactus. The front one is a dimensional, faded red, and the back one has this crazy fuchsia depth to it, with an orange tinted midstripe against the sun. Hoping to get some seeds. Natural pollinators usually do a decent job, but I'll try hand pollinating tomorrow, just in case.

The first Gymno bud of the season was right on the cusp of opening when we had a sudden temperature drop for a few days, and it stalled. I was starting to think it was going to wilt without ever actually blooming, but then it peeked open a bit in the past hour or two. I figured I'd snap a photo, in case this is as good as it's going to get! 😂

That’s right! You gotta be quick with some of these flowers! And now they’re going to fry this weekend. 😍😊🌞

I couldn't resist this gymno when I found it a year or so ago bc 1) it has a baby, and 2) the center looked a bit weird. Fast forward to the present, and sure enough the center seems to be anomalous! I'll fertilize the crap out of it this spring, and hopefully see some interesting growth. 😍
