#specialplant this red hot poker is not the most beautiful, being very tall and scruffy 80% of the year but I'll never get rid. In 1993 we moved to our first house with a garden and Tom, my father-in-law, gave me a root from the plant in his garden. Three house moves later it's still with us, though we lost Tom in 1998. We still call it 'dad's plant' and it always flowers round his birthday on 14th August.
