Thanks Pauline @flof1952 it is Berberis darwinii it was a bit spiky and suited the car park aspect. Sound like I pinched a good cutting hope it takes well and grows.
It’s the darwinii Susan, I have a hedge of it as its tolerant to wind and salty air. It’s a marvellous self-seeder too!
