@dflynn Hi Dawn. I have only just done mine. A little late really but never mind! The branches were very long and leggy but I wanted a compact plant so I cut down to just about the first bud on every branch. I would say there were 3 to 4 buds every few inches so I could have chosen to have a much bigger plant. Just make sure you don't cut the branches below the first bud.

How much do you cut back please. I have acquired several of these this season all in pots at the moment. I would like to put two in the garden. I understand you leave the flowers on until spring. Is this correct please @justin @22pilgrim ?

9w
comment
krishnahairdo

I now have 3 in pots @fuschia, i would be interested to no to, i had a bit of a problem start with mine, very small when i bought them, went on holiday and they didnt get watered, sorry state. Ive had to cut them right down to nothing and start again, growing well but not flowered this year. 😔

9w

22pilgrim

Yes, we leave as is over winter. You can cut them back as much or little as needed. Our two blues in the front are much too big for their positions, so get pruned hard, while the pinks less so. The big white in the back, is different, only half get pruned apart from the heads, the old half get pruned by half. Then visa versa the next year. As you can see, there is no hard or fast rule on the amount of pruning. @krishnahairdo @fuschia

Very helpful advice on pruning, I have three in my little garden with one now way too big for position but didn't realise a hard prune was ok...now in the diary to line up early spring 👏👍🏼✂️✂️😉

Start again @David only remove the dead flower heads next year as you may have pruned at the wrong time, some flower on old wood and some on this years growth
