Getting very excited as I have managed to get this one to this stage in growth. They should not survive this far north but I love a challenge. I picked a sunny sheltered spot and warped it in fleece over the past 2 winters and delighted to see flower buds appearing. It’s now over 6 foot tall and hoping that there will be no gales or late frosts to destroy it, super proud to have got it this far.

@anges @midnightgardener @lovemygarden65 thank you. I have tried for years to grow one. I first saw them on in Gran Canaria and then in a botanic garden and it looking good that I will have flowers this year

Fantastic! I tried these a few years ago with limited success. Keeping them alive over winter was the toughest bit by far. Can't wait to see it in another week or 2 👍

@jeatacake keep trying Jeff. this is my success after years of trying.

I still have a few perennial E.Candicans but they are in pots & stay in the greenhouse in winter. They're just flowering now too & don't get too big. The E.Pinina ones like yours grow too big & tall to realistically keep over winter in the greenhouse. Even fleece & bubble wrap didn't do much for them outside apart from one which survived 4 years, flowered & then died!
