Hi everyone hope you're enjoying the weather...sorry not been on here for awhile! Work/life balance not balancing!!! Here's one of my lovely brugs about to flower....it's got over 50 buds like these! 😃😃
Hi Nick, looking lush 👌😎☀️ welcome back 🙌🍾
Wow stunning 👍
@lamaisonbleueoleron thanks Steve!! Hope ur ok! 😎😎
Hi Nick, good to have you back! It's a busy time of year with everything growing and needing watering. Not to mention people wanting their pearly whites looking good for the holiday snaps! Are you coming to join us at Gardeners World Live at all?
@tash74 when and where is it?? Yes my mum wasn't wrong when she said "dentists and funeral directors are never short of business"!! I suppose if I'd chosen the latter, I could have done the flowers!! 😉😉
Check out the hashtag #gtagmeet I think they're going to be there 18th and 19th June now, at the NEC Birmingham. I'm going on the Saturday! 😁 Really looking forward to meeting some GTers.
I was wondering where you had gotten too. How was the house move? Welcome back. I look forward to seeing your plants.
@tash74 damn I have parents staying with me down in Brighton for Father's Day....I hope there will be a future #gtagmeet !!
@sue1953 not moved yet...house going on market after EU vote as no one knows what house market will do! Mortgage all approved and been looking at some lovely house (& great big gardens!!) I'm so excited to plan my 1st ever garden. I grow everything at the mo in containers!!
@sue1953 how's the weather back on my Oz?? I hear it's not been good in Sydney...global warming at its worst.
Shame, would have been lovely to meet you. But Dad's are important too!

Hi, how do you overwinter your brugmansia?
Hi Garyg, I overwinter my brugs in a polytunnel u my garden, they are too big for my house!! I have a spare room with grow lights and all my tropical plants in!
@Drnicko I left mine in the garage and thought I lost it but it's sprouting from the base so fingers crossed
That's a good sign now as Spring is here. Start feeding with some fertiliser to help it and make sure on a sunny day above 10'c it's goes outside now. There tough plants and usually come back and will still grow huge with the correct care. I fertiliser mine 3-4 X weekly in summer to get them really big! I also make a "brug" foliage spray and spray the leaves at night.
Can you tell me what fertiliser you use on your brugs please? i usually go with chicken manure pellets
I usually make a soil less mix for them which put chicken manure pellets, volacanic dust, bone and blood meal & lime in the mix. Feed generally with miracle grow full strength and tablespoon of Epsom salts 3 X wkly (just cause it's generally cheap and go through loads!) otherwise use foliage pro on main plants. Hope that helps! @gardenhoe
Thanks for the info i will defo give that a go.
Will be following these with interest this year...! Just to make sure I understand, you're saying you feed these 3 times in one week OR once every 3 weeks....?!? 😬 Thankyou!! 😀
@Skotovstoy yes I feed them 3 X weekly they love it and water every day, just make sure in well draining soil. It will grow around 6-8 foot high and wide in one season, so make sure you pot up accordingly!! You will become obsessed with them....😃😃👍👍
@drnicko thanks so much!! Really looking forward to growing it!!
Beautiful! Do you grow on your cuttings in water? I have a house full over winter!
Brugmansia seedlings grown from my own seed collected last year! I've got sooooo many they're overtaking my garden!! 🌴🌴🌴
No wonder you need to move! 😁 Seriously though, I love everything about brugmasnsias but have never had any success with them. I will have another try next spring & use a heated propogator
@jeatacake if your interested I have website as I propogate lots of tropicals. Brugs grown by cuttings are very easy, you can either stick a bit in soil, place a cutting in glass of water. Growing by seed is more difficult, you need to peel the outer cork coating off before sowing. The fresher the seed the better! I'm going to try and cross breed mine this year!
Nick, I would be very interested. Are you OK supying a link on here or would you prefer to do this via e-mail? I am happy either way.
@jeatacake website is on top of my profile on here. Just contact me through there, as not had time to update what I've got or correct stock!!
Doh! Seen it. Will have a browse!
Just been reading your blog Nick. Very inspiring. Wish you all the best with your venture. I'll be reading more later...
@mikethegardener thanks!! Been tricky doing my main job, starting this and my blooming back problem not going...& deciding to move house....very difficult to stop buying seeds and plants!!
Yes I left my office job 7 years ago to fulfil my dreams of working as a gardener/designer. I'm completely obsessed with plants, propagation and all things horticultural. It's quite addictive but I've never been happier. Brighton's a great place.
@mikethegardener well done for making that leap and living your dreams! I've always been good with plants and garden to destress, it just got to a point last year where I had too many, so I thought I sell a few...it's taking off more than I thought!! I have a dream for the future, but need to still do dentistry to make it happen. I would love to own land on Costa Rica and grow high quality coffee, chocolate etc
Wow! Just read your piece Mike and I wish you every success, and dreams can come true 😉💚👒
Thanks Nick and all the best with your venture. I'll keep tabs on your posts & blog! Thanks Elaine!
