Gardening in mostly deep shade in Zone 6. My passion is adding more native plants to my landscape & clearing out the foreign invasives.

First blooms of the year! Lousy photo but I was wearing work shoes and couldn't go stomping thru the mud... #greatcolor

Man, all these years I've thought of these as hard to grow and unlikely to bloom. All I needed to do was plant them in the wet spooge out back. #red #midwesternnative #swamptastic

These blooms are so bright I can pick them out from 100 feet away at my 3rd-story window. Here's hoping they reseed like crazy! #cheerful #swamptastic #midwesternnative

Another surprise today. I planted this out front in the main bed years ago because the tag said "partial shade and well drained soil." It quit blooming and I avoided weeding in the area where it used to be, unsure if it was still hanging on. Well today it's in bloom for the first time in at least 3 years. Now that I know it needs both full sun and wet feet, it's moving out back to the damp where it can live with dignity... #midwesternnative #swamptastic

That is a tough one to grow. Little seen. 🌞

If all the plant tags on Cardinal Flowers give the wrong growing instructions the way mine did, I'm not surprised @sunlovin

I just added 3 more of these to my garden. The first 2 I planted have been spectacular! You’re going to love them!!

I do love them @cheriej but they never survived the winter for me before. Had I known they required wet feet I would have had more success...

I’m glad you mentioned the wet feet! I didn’t know that, but I have been watering them every day with this awful heat. I’ll continue now. Thanks!!

Apparently in the wild they live mostly in wet ditches and on riverbanks @cheriej
