These always emerge just as I am getting genuinely worried that they didn't survive the winter... #interestingfoliage #shadelover #midwesternnative

After all my hand-wringing, one of these emerged yesterday at last. This is the 3rd one to come up #midwesternnative #interestingfoliage #shadelover

Never seen this before. The marking on the foliage is beautiful

That's exactly what attracted me to it, @alan1111 -- saw it in a client's yard and surreptitiously took a photo. GrowIt users ID'd it for me and I found live plants on Etsy

Nice find Eileen love when that happens 😁

Just think, a few weeks ago these were blooming cheerfully all over the flowerbed. I wonder how many new baby Lance Corporals I'll have when the snow melts? #midwesternnative #interestingfoliage

Oh i have a persicaria virginiana too, didn’t realise it would self seed easily, I’ve probably been weeding out the seedlings by mistake!

@richard.spicer.7906 ask @DelbertYoung ! He has a zillion of them. Another common name for these is "jumpseed" because they do just that lol

Still putting out funny little strings of red flowers as we get closer to the day the snow flies... #midwesternnative

Recovering now from its nasty shock, but I am on a mission tomorrow to upgrade its soil.

This is what extreme transplant shock looks like! I popped this out of the ground, draped it across the soil of a potted plant that was going in next to it, and promptly forgot all about it for almost an hour as it gasped for water in the hot sun. This is a damp-loving shade plant. It is still catching its breath hours after I reset it in its new home... #midwesternnative #swamptastic

I finally moved one of these out behind the Plains of Leng. But looking at this photo....are those flower stems!? @DelbertYoung what do you think? You've grown these before and I haven't... #midwesternnative #interestingfoliage

I have a wild version of Knotweed and it takes over. Yours looks like a cultivated form. It’s lovely.

Gee, it was just called Lance Corporal, P. virginiana. Could you spare us a photo of yours @DelbertYoung so we can see the difference? I was sure this was the plain wild kind...

Maybe yours looks nice because it’s wet. I can’t post a photo right now because I’m working down in Canonsburg, PA. I won’t be home for a month or so.

Well, no rush @DelbertYoung LOL

So happy with the way these are thriving on #foliagefriday #midwesternnative

Plucky little guy putting out new leaves despite getting rather too much sun. His brothers will find homes out behind the Plains of Leng where they should get about a half-day of sun. #interestingfoliage #midwesternnative
