Gardening in mostly deep shade in Zone 6. My passion is adding more native plants to my landscape & clearing out the foreign invasives.

Two of the three I planted have emerged! I cannot find the pussy willow at all today and the reeds of death are seriously encroaching... #swamptastic

Now here's an #underrated plant -- stately foliage, grows in conditions most plants can't tolerate, and burns its way up through the snow to bloom for you in late winter. The flowers are also very, very cool. #swamptastic beauty

You can see this one was really nipped by the 2 ice storms... #swamptastic

I gasped when I saw this was actively growing on Easter Sunday! I was sure I had killed all 3 by planting them too soon..."He Is Risen," indeed lol #swamptastic #midwesternnative #fragrant

Looking rough; since I planted these they have been through 2 ice storms; I confess I am quite worried #midwesternnative #swamptastic

At the lower edge of the shot you can see my elegant outdoor seating -- an old tire someone threw down the hill -- and above that 2 of my 3 new Skunk Cabbages marked with stones. Fingers crossed these do better than the other ones I planted...these are MUCH bigger and more vigorous so my hopes are high. 🤞🤞🤞

The perfect planting spot for Skunk Cabbage: partly shaded, a few steps from the water, in a hole with a swimming pool at the bottom...a client of mine has a small forest of these plants growing wild in conditions exactly like these, 10 minutes from my place. #swamptastic

Never thought I'd be setting in live plants the first week of February. This is the bloom on the biggest plant; the others are sprouting, but not blooming #swamptastic

Instant gardening at its best 😆 that’s weird, is this it’s normal blooming time? It sounds like it’s gonna have to fight with the snow each year 🥊 ❄️ although I suppose that’s no different to spring bulbs

These plants are known to bloom right up through the snow in February -- one of the reasons I covet them, @richard.spicer.7906 #weirdness

I’ve just read on wiki that the spathes have thermogenic properties and melt the ice around it! 😳

The green tufts at the base of the trees are the cabbage, lining the edges of a creek near here #notmyplant #swamptastic #midwesternnative

Thrilled to announce I found some of these online and ordered them today! They burn their way up through the snow to bloom in February or March... #fragrant #swamptastic #midwesternnative #notmyphoto
