Help me identify this plant please GT folk. It's growing wild under a hedge. Big white fleshy roots that travel!! Not seen it flower but think it dies back in winter. No idea if it's native or an escapee??

It's Winter Heliotrope (Petasites fragrans). It has vanilla-scented flowers in winter but is horribly invasive. It's not native but from the Mediterranean.
