Thank you @jpea. This is a group 3, so apparently I have been pruning it correctly. Not so with my other purple clematis, where I have probably cut away the early flowers... Next year I'll do better!

It is strong and healthy @riakat -and easy to propagate too. I expect it will "mysteriously appear" all over the garden in the coming years! There is always room!
