This is the biggest and tallest this hellebore has ever been!

Where have you planted it? Light, dark, heavy clay soil, sandy?

@ulrikagustafsson, my entire garden is heavy clay, but I’ve added lots of organic material over the years. I have hellebores more or less everywhere, but this one is the eldest, I think.

I’ve got a few hellebores but they’re not getting any bigger and I’ve planted them in different areas of the garden with more or less sun. My garden consist mostly of heavy clay too. Maybe I’m just too impatient. 🙂

Surely, that can’t be it, @ulrikagustafsson? Impatient??? Never! 😳😜😂 But they do often take quite a while before they get going, or perhaps I’ve ended up buying them young and cheap(er)? I try to add extra drainage when planting, but I quite often forget too. The hybrids do better than the nigers in my garden, which ones are you growing?

I’m afraid this is the truth, now you know.😉 I’m growing a few different varieties but they grow equally slow. 🤷‍♀️ @emve

As long as we don’t give up, @ulrikagustafsson, we can be impatient and patient at the same time. Good luck with your hellebores, perhaps they will surprise you one of these days.

It’s that freeze-dried time of year again. The hellebores will be fine, but I’ll probably lose most flowers and buds. New ones will come.

I have many hellebores of varying shapes and colors, but the whites (green?) are definitely my favourites.

Still looking for that yellow hellebore, lemon colored would be ideal. This looks the part right now, but I think it bloomed white last year.

Can't wait for this hellebore to make a proper appearance. It looks rather dark now, but I seem to remember it quite a bit darker, so perhaps the color will deepen. And it looks like it has made quite a few babies since last year too!

What a beauty

I love the contrast between those two. That dark one is nameless (because I lost the tag many years ago), but I'd really wish I could buy one more just like it. I might try to divide it one day, but for now I don't want to disturb it.

It seems everything is behind this year here as well @greenfinger14 , but after yesterday's warm spell I can already see a change. Spring litterally happened over night, and it looks like we'll be keeping it for at least a week! Several dry days in a row will be quite a change for us!!!

It's the first we've seen this year and not exactly record-breaking (14 degrees), but here on the west coast we are good at imediately enjoying what ever "heat" we get, because we know chances are it won't stay long. Where are you located? @greenfinger14

I agree completely! @greenfinger14 . You can see it has been burnt and battered by a hard winter and very late spring, but it is a surviver! Can't wait for it to (hopefully) bulk up and produce lots more flowers in the coming years.

I realize this will probably turn out white, but for now it is looking kind of yellow, so I'm hoping. I really want yellow one!

Good things to come! While most seem to be flashbacking back to summers past, I went looking for signs of spring this morning. There is surface frost right now, which will probably be followed by repeated cycles of thawing and deeper frost before spring really gets here. Hellebores make the waiting easier.

It really wasn't that cold, just around zero @columbiariver, so it is doing fine. Everything is melted now, and we will have a very rainy new year's celebration.

Wet and windy here in my part of the world, but this nameless hellebore doesn't seem to mind much.

I keep forgetting how dark these are when they open! I think they turn paler later in the season.

I just mulch mine late autumn with well rotted manure.

@sunnyray I'll probably be doing that in the future, but I didn't get around to giving them anything last year. I found sone bonemeal in the shed (not the tidiest place, so there are probably many more surprises hidden), and since there are bulbs and hellebores together, I am thinking perhaps that would work?

I don't do anything to mine as they get completely smothered in leaves from my trees in autumn!

Chicken poop pellets in spring and a few tomato plant feeds from the end of summer.

@Hellebore @beckers1974 Some of mine get leaves from surrounding trees, but the more exposed ones will probably need some extra food once the ground warms up a bit.
