Ok HELP🙃 losing more end nodes and Hope noticed that each clave that loses an end has roots showing. WHATTT??? It’s only one pot of 4 that’s doing this - but all are the same plant - split out 6 months ago #thanksgivingcactus #planthelpplease

How often do you water it? And what kind of light is it getting?

@savannahssucculentgarden this was the one I brought into my bedroom, so light was pretty minimal. I wanted to see if I could force bloom. I just did that a month ago. Two were brought in fam rm but got same light & 1 left outside on lanai. This one had the least light. All are now back on lanai. East light, covered. Water when top of soil feels dry. 50/50 top soil & perlite, I let it run through.

@savannahssucculentgarden to be clear, the fam room and lanai pots are all fine. Those got same amount of light consistently. The only one that changed was this one in trouble. Watering has been the same for all. I brought this out and repotted a few days ago when I noticed the ends dropping.

You probably cracked the node connection, handling it and the next time you grabbed it again, roots had grown. That’s my experience. Mine also never did well indoors. It’s a better green house plant. Out in the elements is a bit rough on them.

If it’s cold stop watering it maybe every two weeks or longer, 1 cup measure of water

My best guess is that it needs more light or fertilizer. It's an epiphyte, so aerial roots are used to anchor it to trees. Aerial roots often mean it is reaching for something. Either more light or more nutrients.

Is there any discoloration or spots on the leaves?

@savannahssucculentgarden @docthrill I bet the combo of changing temp/humidity AND amount of light is what did it to this one. The other 2 I brought in had the temp/humidity change, but not the light change. I rescued this from a neighbor, it was living in full Florida sun for heaven knows how long. I may boost it with some fertilizer and will just leave it out on the lanai where I know it has been happy, albeit bloomless.

@savannahssucculentgarden @docthrill really appreciate your thoughts on this. I hope I can bring it back. This was a LOT of loss, 2 handfuls of single nodes. I feel terrible stressing the poor plant out just to see if I could make it bloom.

Is it too dry?

@heatherdirtyhands I think it dried out fast in my bedroom. Just shaking the pot causes more nodes to fall, not even touching the plant. It was a huge mistake bringing it inside. David’s is a much darker green, so I know these all need fertilizer as well.

Take those pieces and stick them jar of water they will root.

Thanks! I put them on a fresh bed of soil. As soon as they root, I’ll plant them. I wonder if they dropped from temp change... it was just single claves. Soil wasn’t really dry or wet, roots weren’t really bound either.

A temperature change makes sense. It looks otherwise healthy. 🤔🌞

Thanks @sunlovin. I panicked, thinking there was moisture trapped below the top part of the soil, so I dumped the pot. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, so hoping the roots liked a good airing & fresh soil.

Any secrets on helping it grow? Any special soil needs? Watering needs? I’ve had mine a year and it’s grown maybe three little leaves. I did neglect giving it proper light for a while.

@rudester1 it depends on which kind you have. In general, you can force blooms by keeping in cooler temps (68-70) and drop the light to 8hrs a day. Make sure you’re watering well, soil should be barely moist. As long as you’re seeing growth, your good!

@rudester1 post a pic of it and tag me when you can. I didn’t know there are different kinds til recently. Yours may want more light or more warmth. Mine likes warmer temps. Christmas doesn’t, I can tell by close up of the clades (leaves). 😊
