I took some cuttings today. I'm going to try to grow some over winter. I know they root fairly easily.

I'm already thinking of where to plant #Strobilanthes 'Persian Shield' next year. I wonder how they'll like a sunnier location? #victorygarden #communitygarden #fenway #fenwayvictorygardens #urbangarden #shadegarden

I can't say it often enough. I love strobalanthis. Two things I learned about them this year. They're babies when it comes to being watered. At the 1st sign of dryness they droop. They bounce back quickly with a good watering. Second, don't pinch them back too late in the season. They slowed down their rate of growth. I pinched one & it looks awful

#Strobalanthis is thriving. I should pinch them back but I'm kind afraid that I'll ruin them.

I don't usually plant annuals, but I put in several of these strobilanthes & they look great with all my greens

I like the use of colour here too to contrast. I use annuals too among all my perennials to keep it interesting.

Because of the amount of shade I have I don't depend on flowers in my garden. I generally go for leaf color/texture/shape. Each season does have flower accents. Right now the hydrangeas & astilbes are adding color

Heucheras can add some great floral interest like "Paris". Primulas also thrive in shade. Rodgersia has magnificent giant chestnut leaves and has amazing astilbe like blooms. Violas also love shady spots. And then bergenia and thalictrums. :)

I use to have quite a variety of heucheras in my garfen. I do love the leaves. Mostbhave died out. I assume it was du to my lack of watering. I've actually got a great one in a pot with a weed. They look good together. I'll post it.
