@columbiariver yes! I only ended up with 2 melons. It was my first attempt at growing. I'll try again next summer.

Is that one plant? If not, they look crowded.

Has anyone else grown watermelon vines over cement slab? Any advise? Should I cover the cement with hay or straw or something ? I'm thinking the vines get hot as the afternoon hot N. California sun is on them allllll afternoon and I don't have any melons starting yet?

Watermelons, squash, pumpkins etc., love the heat, so unless they show signs of stress, I wouldn't be concerned. Enjoy the fruits! 😊

There's also an apple tree growing in the middle. My 7 year old decided to put the seeds of her apple into the ground. We now have 5 baby apple trees in our front yard. Going to need to move these at some point, soon!
