Halp. This guy hates me with the power of a thousand suns, and has for years. I have no idea how it’s still alive, and I’m shocked it’s trying to pup right now. I treat it like I do my other thriving aeoniums re: water, light, etc. Is there something I’m missing with this variety’s loves/hates outside the Aeonium norm? Anyone have #succulentadvice? #aeonium-advice? Poor critter.
@sherrisgarden Drainage seems decent - water definitely doesn’t hang around in the pot. Same stuff as I use for most, minus the cactus-types. I have been thinking of going grainier, though. In the growing season, it gets Cactus Juice every couple weeks at recommended strength. I’m seriously stumped. Probably a good next step to change the soil, though. Thanks!
What's the weather like where you are? It could be dormant at the moment if it's really hot. We've had a really hot spell and my greenovia has gone dormant. This link explains what could be going on https://www.succulentsandsunshine.com/succulent-dormancy-table/
@Soph1e Fantastic resource in that dormancy table, thank you! Bookmarked instantly. I’m in Colorado; weather here has been stupidly hot but my aeoniums are all inside at 75 degrees. I’d love to say it’s dormancy, but if that’s the case it’s been ‘dormant’ since early 2018. 😬 Unfortunately doubtful. Its stem wobbles a lot, like it’s never been thoroughly, happily rooted...not sure. @hagar, I’d love your insight if you can think of anything.
This one is a bugger , definitely dormant but also looks dry , maybe time to repot and start again , I use 50% soil based potting compost and 50% potting grit and always a Terracotta pot , I find Aeoniums need more water than any other plants in my collection's , I grow them in morning sun only and they even in Scotland seem to only grow in the spring and Autumn , I don't think they go into full dormancy here which I think is due to me keeping them out of the afternoon sun ☺️🌵😷
Thanks very much, @hagar! I’ll start with the repot. I’m not sure I’m thinking of the same thing you are with ‘soil-based compost;’ the ingredients of my go-to succulent mix, well-draining but not very ‘chunky,’ are the following. Is this appropriate? ‘Pumice, perlite, processed forest products, processed softwood bark compost, composted worm casings.’ I mix that at different proportions with a well-respected local brand for cactus; nearly all grit with pumice/bark chunks.
@hagar As for light/temps, the aeoniums are inside in a greenhouse area off my kitchen; close to consistent conditions throughout the year, steady light from early morning through late evening via a big grow-light set up on the ceiling (I decrease the time by a couple hours fall/winter). All other aeoniums approve. 🙂 🌵 I’ll keep a closer eye on water. Thank you so much for your help.

How's the drainage ? Maybe it needs fertilizer ?

@hagar has a bigger collection of aeoniums so he might be able to offer some thoughts.
