Cryptanthus Bivittatus

Even though I saw this one bloom I checked again what their flowers look like and the all pink offset is indeed not a flower. These produce offsets after blooming, but before the main plant dies. I caused this one to stress bloom late last winter while experimenting with drought. My plant should have been too young to bloom and I believe this stress resulted in my all pink offset. Hopefully it will produce all pinks as well, a new cultivar born! 💸 #cryptanthus-bivittatus #pink #pink-earth-star

One of my first non-succulent plants here. Although, I almost think they might be considered succulents. Originally I bought one, but as winter went on, Walmart discounted all of them. I’m not sure why, because all of them were healthy, they are a very very hardy plant. It may have been because they lost what little pink they had in the dark of the garden center, so people weren’t buying “pink earth stars” that were green and white. Or maybe because they needed room for new plants. @gjones

@gjones but at $1.74 I had to buy another, which is rare for me. Thats a no-no for me because if I want more, I make more from my original plant/plants, that’s my rule. But these can take about two years to offset, and it was too cheap, I collapsed under the pressure lol! 🙈

Still not sure what’s going on here. It’s made 2 babies for sure, but the solid pink one? It does not seem like their flower, but also shouldn’t be solid pink. I partly by accident partly for experimentation severely droughted them last winter, and after spring came this one began doing this.
