They are just amazing - fell in love on my last trip to cornwall- they were at lost gardens of heligan and trebah. Just had to have one or two or three... I'll be patient 😇

I've been wanting my borders to fill out, but this is ridiculous. Everything is overlapping with the bigger stuff winning the fight 😳

@susanhumphrey333 isn't it marvellous 😀 don't worry the smaller ones always find a way to push true

@vec what happen, frost? Anyway nature doesn't belong to no one it belong to us all so enjoy this one 😌

Yes it got hit badly with frost and it had fleece covering it. I've lost 2 cabbage palms too. Had them for years. On the plus side, I've got cannas emerging from the soil so didn't lose all my tender plants. My plan is to put all my new tender plants in the new border which is protected from the north wind by the summerhouse ☺

@vec what a shame, but it does happen, I'm quite lucky with tender plants as I'm in the south cost and the garden is protect by tall walls, however even here the location is quite important, and the timing of bringing them from the greenhouse to the final position also as they do react much better to the frost when the rooting system is well establish in the soil

Love echinums never managed to get one to flower

8w

@lisa868 Some of them are not so frost resistant and need protection in the winter, but this one is quite resistant, be aware of the caterpillars and do regular inspections, they munch the poor things to dead

I should give it another go @inlove

Do you have to stake them? It looks quite sheltered there.

8w

They do stand in their own if they have the space around but this one is again the wall and I did stake it in the beginning, now is almost 5 meters @opuntia

I think the last time I saw them growing was Ventnor Subtropical Garden on the Isle of Wight. #microclimate because of the cliffs at the north of the garden and the benefit of the sea.

@opuntia I'm in the south cost and here they grow quite well, I'm growing also the candicans one and so far is doing pretty well and I thing it will flower this year
