Morning everyone. Lovely rich colour on this early bloom. The bud however looks a bit grumpy, as though itā€™s giving me a sideways glance ā€œWhat are you looking at?!ā€ 😳😆 #clematis #clematis-montana #pink #bud #spring

After my sad photo of my other Montana Elizabeth, I thought Iā€™d brighten things up a bit with the #firstflower of my other, much happier clematis which is at the front of the house. It lives very happily with the variegated Ivy #clematis #clematis-montana #clematismontanaelizabeth #pink

A rather sad photo to match the dreary wet day. This clematis Montana Elizabeth has been a star performer for many years but is now looking very sad indeed. There are buds, leaves and flowers in some area, but others as you can see are not looking very well at all. Any thoughts or #advice please? #clematis #clematis-advice #clematis-help #help

Is there a build up of soil around the bottom of the stem? Maybe scrap back a bit and see if that helps although they donā€™t like their neck showing

Do you prune it after flowering Angela? 🤔

4w
comment
italydiva

Thanks for this...Iā€™ve just checked. There doesnā€™t appear to be any build up of soil Christine. Certainly no different to previous years. 🤔 @vegandmore

This is the one thing my husband loves doing, pruning the clematis. He sometimes gets carried away and I have to suggest heā€™s done enough! I must admit he doesnā€™t prune the individual spent blooms, itā€™s more a case of pruning it to keep it within the boundaries of the trellis @pelly

Probably weather related Angela, lots of odd things happening to my plants too 😕

Grateful for your input Jane...itā€™s often a process of illimination that gets us there in the end. I must admit that I wondered if my other half had been a bit too vigorous on the pruning front. Lol 😂 @pelly

I do hope so Julie and it will reinvigorate given time. I wasnā€™t sure if maybe the frost had got it? Just hope itā€™s not clematis wilt? 🤞 @juliesgarden @pelly

Thanks Elaine. 😊 Iā€™ll chop out the bad bits and see what happens and will resort to a more drastic chop if that doesnā€™t work. Watch this space...! @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom

Morning everyone 👋 Never have I been so pleased to see a bud open....all is well. It looks as though it was green petal rather than green leaf disease. Phew! 😅 😃 @DeborahBanks @pelly #clematis #clematis-montana #pink

Something curious going on here. Just pruning and aside from finding out of season buds, I also came across this....it doesnā€™t seem to know if itā€™s a leaf or a flower. Anyone seen anything similar? 🤔 #clematis #clematis-montana

Very curious, not that that's any help 🙄🤔

It was on a gardening programme I saw a while back. Itā€™s something about clematis having tepals not petals so part can revert back to leaf form.

Thanks so much Deborah. I notice it mentions the cause can be cold weather? Not had a lot of that lately! Desperately hoping itā€™s not the other option...a bacteria-like organism called mycoplasma, known as green flower disease. Iā€™ve got other clematis right next to it. 😔 Not sure how to determine which the problem is? Donā€™t want to leave it too late in taking action if itā€™s mycoplasma rather than green petal. @DeborahBanks @pelly #clematisadvice #advice #help

Oh wow, green petal is what happens to my clematis Avant Garde every year on the first two or three flowers. I didnā€™t know what it was and tbh never looked it up because the plant was healthy. I bet thatā€™s what yours is too Angela 🤞🤞🤞 @DeborahBanks

4w

italydiva

Yes, letā€™s hope so Jane🤞The difficulty is that this is blooming out of season so I may not have subsequent flowers to compare it against and know for sure 🤷ā€ā™€ļø The clematis itself still looks healthy though, So hereā€™s hoping 😊 @pelly @DeborahBanks

Yes hopefully thatā€™s what it is Deborah. The link to the article you sent mentions another possibility which is not treatable. Hopefully itā€™s the former though🤞😊 Very grateful for the info! 😊 @DeborahBanks
