Morning Jen 👋 best done late winter / early spring before new growth really takes hold but when you can see new shoots poking through as then you can see where to divide. In my experience you dont't have to be too precious and you and can either cut it or use a sharp spade to divide your clump. I'd leave 4-6 shoots in a section if you can and replant at same depth with the new growth just poking through the earth. Replant in lots of rich compost to help grow. Hope this helps 👋
How and when do you split a hosta
Wow that's a great Hosta you have there 👍
Do you know when and how to split it ?

Thanks a great help
Great hosta, mine usually get eaten by the slugs
Put lots of slug powder round it and got some nermertoids to water in
My fav plant cant get enough of them
