The late buds of the giant sunflowers died with a cold snap.

Oh, so they weren't meant to be black?

This giant sunflower seems to provide a good resting place. This katydid takes center stage while a few others found shelter from the evening rain showers. #giantsunflower #katydid #nightgarden #noweygardens

That’s a katydid. Nocturnal predator.

@eklinke1983 this is my second year. Just one seed from last year grew on it's own and escaped my usual random weeding. Found a perfect spot, somewhat sheltered and gets direct sun in early afternoon for about 3-4 hours.

@eklinke1983 giant sunflowers can be very sensitive to temperature, soil and water. Pest have been eating it's leaves and a downpour had it tipped halfway over but I propped it up and it bloomed anyway!

Started propping up my #giantsunflower following rain storm using a sliding curtain rod and a portable greenhouse structure to gently tie and support it upright. But it's so TALL! #noweygardens

Before.and after the storm. Giant sunflower is taking it hard. Do I prop it up? Will it rise again on it's own?! #giantsunflower #sunflower-advice #noweygardens

Yes! Prop that baby up! The head will naturally droop down when the seeds start developing, due to the weight of all those seeds!

Thank you @gardengirlla and @treefrog44 I got a big beautiful sunflower bloom after supporting the stem with old curtain rods! Love it!
