#canna patch. Is it the cold that makes the leaves split?

@cyndi good question. But that actually made me think the gardener probably blew out all the beds two days ago. I’ll bet that did it. Was curious.

@cyndi I’m waiting for the freeze to knock them out. Then I’ll clean them up. Small price to pay for a yard guy I really like! Lol. (He cleans up my messes.)

Cut the leaves and flower stalk at the soil line when the plant dies back after the first frost. Use a knife or a pair of sharp clippers to cut through the fleshy stalks. #wintercare

Stop fertilizing in winter to allow the canna plants to go dormant.

Spread a 4- to 6-inch layer of mulch over the soil above the roots. Seed-free straw, leaf mold, peat moss or other organic material work well.
