The Purple Loosestrife flower inhabits reed swamps, margins of lakes and slow-flowing rivers, ditches and marshes. It is an aggressive flower and has spread westward and can be found in all states except for Florida. Please check with your state to make sure Purple Loosestrife is ok to plant in your state.
From seed; direct sow outdoors in fall.From seed; winter sow in vented containers, coldframe or unheated greenhouse. From seed; #stratify if sowing indoors. From seed; #sowindoors before last frost. From seed; #directsow after last frost.From seed; #germinate in a damp paper towel.Self-sows freely; deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings next season
I'm thinking this might actually be "winged loosestrife" (6 petals) rather than the invasive "purple loosestrife" (5 petals). What do you think, @cyndi ? 💕

@gjones good to know! This plant was a volunteer in my yard. I'll try to germinate and see if I have any luck.
@gjones I'll know next year for sure! 😉

Can you see them??! I'm so sad! I love this flower, but short of pulling it out of the ground and replanting it, I don't think I can get more plants for next year...
Those tiny little black spots? Put this thru a colander, maybe separate them from the chaff?
@lesliecole49 that's them, I think. Good idea to get the flowers separated 😉

My beautiful wildflower volunteer... I want this to come back next year, but swipe to see what I think the seeds are! Impossible!
It might self sew. Are you sure it is an annual
@momasherri it's the first time I've ever seen it, so I assume so. And if it self sows, it's in the wrong location. 😉
Would you be able to attach a paper bag below the blooms or put down newspaper when it begins to seed so that you can collect a few seeds?
@ofthought this is my loosestrife. Crazy, huh? It was over five feet tall!
So pretty!

It's a tall, beautiful "weed", I think... but if I could figure out what it is and what the #seeds look like, it would have a new permanent home in my garden. I ❤️ it! #PlantID
Yeah i think loosestrife.. ive only ever seen yellow though
Get us closer to that flower, please.
@lovestogarden swipe through the photos to see closer 😉
Well, looky there! Sorry, but I still do not know. Pretty though.
Buddleia or beard tongue maybe. I've never seen that foliage before @jennlamaye

It sure is pretty!!!
@drea0508 I thought so, too! Glad I didn't yank it out before it flowered!
Pretty little flowers 🌿🌸
Gawgous!!
@cyndi
@cyndi got it! Wonder why I read something about the petals. Lol. Either way, I'm keeping it. 💕
By the way, if I sent you this #seed, please forget my name. Lol @cyndi @Kuhnjuice @dhagen1054 @terrimclaughlin @daisy-jane @ofthought
@cyndi it could be illegal in some states because of its invasiveness.
Good resource @cyndi. And interesting to note I have five plants on oregons list already on my yard. 👀
Laughing...I forgot everything.
@ofthought I need your address 😉jennlamaye@gmail.com

Help me identify this plant... I can't find it on my wildflowers list. It's over three feet tall. #plantid
