Can anyone tell me what this is on our grandsons rowan tree? Is it a problem? Many thanks

I doubt if it’s anything sinister, just nature. Is it the same all around the tree or just on one side? 🤔

My son sent me a photo of it. It’s in Manchester, they were visiting it today and he was a bit concerned. It’s 14 years old, planted in memory of his son who was stillborn. @jacaranda

I suspect it’s just the result of the recent wet weather. I would tell your son to keep checking it and maybe see if any of it brushes off once the trunk dries out. It’s such a special tree 💚
