Zone 5a. Indoor w/ grow light. Started working with plants 3 years ago. In love with succulents so I’m trying to learn EVERYTHING.

This plant is a weird one. The leaves just won’t stiffen up even when I don’t water it for extended periods. But it’s putting out a beautiful flower. Are these supposed to be a bit soft? (Also sorry about being a bit of a downer in my last post, I was just feeling a bit sad.) #inflorescence

@KelsiBriana I haven’t checked the roots. It’s still a fairly new plant to me so I didn’t want to disrupt it too much. But I think I’ll have to take a peek.

I agree with Kelsi, unpot it, 1. Get it in a bucket of water and wash the roots thoroughly. It wouldn’t go amiss to even give the plant a nice giggle in the water to dislodge any pests. Pot it in a larger pot so the diameter of the pot is slightly larger than the plant. 2. What soil are you using? 3. What’s your watering schedule? 4. Do you have a moisture meter?

@Yollymac I unpotted and washed it off. No signs of rot. Roots were growing healthy. No idea why it’s unhappy. I let it dry out overnight and now I’m repotting into an even grittier mix. 2. A mixture of a little potting soil, then mostly coconut husk, some vermiculite and lots of perlite and pumice. 3. I water about 2 or mayyyyybe 3 times a month. 4. Yes I do but every time I use it in my succulent soil it basically comes up as a 1 even if the soil feels a bit cool and wet to my finger.

Can you try something? Leave the vermiculite holds water. Try just premium potting soil best you can find and add a small handful of the perlite and pumice only. You’re going into summer which I believe is the growth period. I read not to water this plant during dormancy in winter. Give it the nutrients it needs to grow, well drained of course and get rid of the vermiculite and husks.

Mine has been growing all summer in premium potting soil mix with no drainage material and watering once a week sometimes once a fortnight depending on what time I have.

@Yollymac Hmm okay. Kinda makes me worry about my other plants now. But I’ll go buy some potting soil (should I try cactus and succulent potting soil? Or regular?) Must just be one of those oddballs that likes a wetter soil.

I just use regular premium soil for all my plants. Only recently have I started to mix in 1/3 very course sand as an experiment. Hang on I will find some info on it for you.

There wasn’t an entry for this hybrid but I believe it to be an Echeveria Bombycina? Correct me if I’m wrong. A cute hairy little guy. #echeveria
