This photo pretty much sums up my garden at the moment. I’ve not been on for a long time as my plants have taken an absolute beating over the past 6 weeks. Sounds dramatic but I’m broken hearted by the damage the frosts have done. Looks like about 1/5 of my plants are gone and that’s without knowing what damage bulbs & tubers have taken. Trying to find some enthusiasm but it’s not easy 😞 hopefully the start of bulb season will help 🙏🏻 hope you’re all keeping well 💚 #crocus #crocus-cream-beau

This is the highs and lows of the gardening world and not much we can do, so we have to roll with the punches that mother nature can sometimes throw at us! 😳 We will survive and actually thrive! Oh Kerry I know exactly how you feel. I've lost some of my favourite plants too this year but every little bulb that pushes up through the soil gives me hope as that beautiful crocus must give you. I’m so with you on this Kerry .. mine were under 4” of water for weeks and then frozen sold , then the bitter winds .. lost so many plants .. makes you feel it was all for nothing 🤬 but spring is coming and hopefully that will restore our faith .. big hugs 🤗

I think we can all identify with how you feel. Every plant in my greenhouse died 😥. But soon be time to start sowing new seeds.

Those cold spells were quite something. If it’s any consolation, a lot of professional growers have had the same problem I hear. But, I wouldn’t throw anything woody away just yet, as sometimes they surprise you and resprout from the base or leaf nodes. Hopefully your bulbs are ok. I lost my nerines unfortunately as they got too wet, followed by icy cold and now mushy.

That's a beauty! 😉 I'm really peeved at the moment because I went to check on the garden and something ate another crocus flowerbud from the new crocus mix. Not slugs/snails and we don't have squirrels so it must be birds. I wonder which one is the culprit. 😬 They only seem to be targeting the new lot of crocuses because I have the exact same cultivars in another flowerbed. 😡

@ublaszko so glad I got them. The stamen (think that’s the right bit) is the most amazing orange!!! And the dark blotches on the outside 😍 love em 😛 no way! Evil birds!! How strange they’re only eating the newly planted ones 😕 hope the little winged Satans don’t get any more of them 🙏🏻

They're still leaving other crocuses alone 😅 I had that problem before with yellow crocuses a few years ago but not the purple ones. Also, I think there might be more birds around atm because Lucius doesn't like the cold and wet outside 😂

@ublaszko I read birds like yellow flowers which would be ok for you most of the time 😂 just not your crocuses! Lucifer needs to get his act together!!
