#foliagefriday

These fancy grasses really come into their own at this time of year 👍

I like that I'll have to get myself some grasses

@jeatacake they add some much needed movement and texture. Plus look lovely with a touch of frost (can’t believe I just wrote that 🙈)

@alan1111 they’re so great for this time of year. Something to look at other than twigs 😂

I be keeping an eye out for something suitable for my garden. I need a bigger garden 😜

@alan1111 😂 a bigger garden and mild winters, perfect 😍

🌾

I need more grasses 🙏🏻

@suerichards me too 😂 they add so much interest with their weird and wonderful seed heads/flowers (never know what to call them 🙈)

Mine is starting to look decent again after being munched by Pudgy. A couple of these flowers/seedheads coming on too.

@ublaszko pudgy is too funny 😂 glad it’s making a recovery 😁 they’re beautiful when they fluff up like this aren’t they 😍

They look just like my hair when I wake up 😅

@ublaszko 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Cool picture!💘😍

@ShelleySnyder thanks Shelley 😀 hadn’t noticed how much detail was in the feathery bits 😜

Welcome! It's very cool!💘😍

@gjones I think they are. The wind has fanned out the “flowers” much more than usual so it’s really showing how intricate they are 😍 I do love a grass or 2 😛

Your one looks better than mine. Mine has a lot of brown growth from last year.

@ublaszko mine did too but I cut it right back and it’s done great since ☺️

I cut mine back last year but I managed to kill one and the other looked really thin and miserable, was slow to grow back so I'm holding back on pruning it again. I'm just going to pull out the brown bits.

@ublaszko oh nooooo 😫 I lost a few I’d grown for my sister that way 😜 hope yours bounces back 😊

It did bounce back, just needs a spring tidy 😁

Cataloging, grown from seed

I've grown mine from seed too. They take so long to bush out 😥 And the cats keep munching on it which doesn't help 😅

@ublaszko I was quite pleased this one flowered (or whatever the grass equivalent is 😂) but it doesn’t seem to have grown particularly much. I’ll pot them on this week so hopefully will encourage more growth. Do you cut these back to make them bushier?

Nope, don't cut it back 😅 Stipa grasses are generally slow to bush out in the first year or two and then in the third year they start to look like a proper clump of grass. Only move your ornamental grasses when they're in vigorous growth (May onwards) otherwise they do nothing for a year. I pruned mine back this year only because Pudgy and Lucius were munching on it when they were kittens. Now they're adult cats they seem to have more self-control 😂😂

@ublaszko May, I’ll make a note to repot it then 😁 bless them 😂😂😂 they love your garden as much as you but for edible reasons 😂

Yep, grasses and butterflies are on the menu in my garden 😂 Only cabbage whites though @kez001uk

@ublaszko I bet you’d earn a fortune hiring them out just to catch cabbage whites!!! 😂

Telling me! I tried saving a cabbage white once from Pudgy's teeth and she growled at me! 😲😲 Never heard it before 😨 Not saving any more cabbage whites, they can be her protein rich snack 😂😂😂 @kez001uk

@ublaszko 😂 she growled 😂 she must love a bit of butterfly to snack on 😉🤣

She really does 😅 @kez001uk
