First flowers starting to bloom on my huge begonia. Now I don’t think I can trim it! So I’ll wait until the blooms are done this year and then prune it way back for next year. I never imagined spring would start so early!

Do you think I should cut back the longest stems so it gets a little bushier?

Thanks ladies, I agree. I think that will look really good, and it will grow back so quickly. I noticed the first flower buds today! 😍 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom @cyndi

Nothing else has grown in this very shaded spot, so I’m really pleased that this enormous begonia is so happy there. It will be covered in red flowers in the spring.

I didn't know begonias could grow so tall!

@novicegardenlover Neither did I, Susan! It’s over 7 feet tall now! The stalks are very thick and sturdy, not like most begonias. More like bamboo.

I have the same begonia in the house and its getting so tall already I can see it getting to be 7 feet lol. I hope so. I was considering chopping it but seeing yours I think its just how its supposed to grow

@heatherdirtyhands I thought it was so leggy because it wasn’t getting enough sun, but I read up on it recently and I guess this is pretty normal for these begonias. And it’s grown a lot of new leaves since being here, where it’s very shady, so I reckon that means it’s happy, right? I thought I would trim it back in a few months since it grows so quickly.

This is my new, very large #begonia, with a close up shot of the leaves. It is another neighbor gift so I don’t know much about it, other than it has polka dot leaves and red flowers. Is it an Angel or Dragon Wing? Or maybe something else? Begonias can be hard for me to figure out.

I didn’t know that was a kind of begonia! Interesting. Thanks @Cyndi!
