Always interested in gardening but since moving I now have a larger rural garden, lots of opportunities. Chickens, veg patch, greenhouse and pond.

I see what you mean! 🙄 Then again mine started like that as a friend gave me them and she had grown them from seed

I adore agapanthus, but I’ve not had any success in growing them. I bought these two pots last year in the autumn sales for £5 each. Any top tips to ensure success, greatly appreciated. At the moment they are in the (unheated) greenhouse. Thanks x

Hi Lee, where abouts are you? I’m in Cumbria and mine live in pots outside all winter against a west facing wall and have self seeded in the path. Someone once told me they like to be pot bound, so hopefully yours will flourish if you leave them as they are 👍

Thanks @awomanonabike we are in East Sussex. I had heard that too about being pot bound. I would LOVE mine to self seed. Before I bought these, I bought really young plants on mail order but I am not convinced they will do as well. I was so chuffed when I saw these in the sale. Fingers crossed. I guess from your advice as soon as it starts to get slightly warm I should take them out of the greenhouse.

Here is what the RHS says. I hope it helps too. I agree they are wonderful plants 💙 https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=60

Hi Lee the deciduous ones are ok outside all year but evergreen need good winter protection. I’ve heard that a regular dose of tomato feed from quite early on in the season will ensure fabulous flowering, welcome aboard its great to have you here 🙂

Thank you @icedance. Daft question but can u assume that these big ones are evergreen then? Not sure it’s that simple to determine with the little ones (see other photo) but I have labelled them, so I can look them up. Great tip re feeding, thank you.

No such thing as a daft question in my book , looking at them I’d say they are evergreen they do tend to have thicker leaves. Your smaller babies look like they may be deciduous but as they have come from mail order they may have been growing under poly tunnels so have kept their leaves. Hope that’s helpful

I have loads in pots and they are VERY pot bound, flower lots, leave them out in all weathers and I'm in West Sussex. Also have some in the ground too! I don't give them any special treatment. Beautiful plants x
