I have this one too; I can recommend leaving the previous year's growth on over winter, but then carefully pluck off all the dead leaves. It seems to make it flower really intensively the following spring!

@dreggennedd thank you I will keep that in mind... I have a feeling I planted it last year with another clematis... but sure I’ll find out soon enough lol

@dreggennedd left the growth as you suggested and it’s got dozens of big buds ready to open this year
