Where my #Orchid experts at? This #phalaenopsis had a gnat infestation. I tried cinnamon, gnat traps, got a moisture gage, used rain water & even measured the water. Is there anyway to save or propagate a new plant? I think it's headed for the compost, but I thought I would ask the community first. Thank you in advance! #moth-orchid #phalaenopsis-orchid
Cinnamon wouldn't work to get rid of gnats it's used to prevent infection on cuts. The gnats are fungus flys they eat decaying matral. Best way to deal with them is a carnivores plant like a sundew. It does look like you have been over watering but I suspect it was still in the original medium which will have broken down, soil like and hold to much water. Moth orchids only need watering when the roots turn grey so not as often as you think and be very careful not to get water in the crown as
Will kill the plant through crown rot. Wich does look a bit like it may have happened. You can try this there is no garantee it will work. Remove all the soft squishy roots get hold of good quality ideally new Zealand sphagnum moss for orchids moss for terrariums isn't good enough quality. Wet it then squeeze it out to get rid of excess water. Put it in a clear plastic bag and add the remains of the plant and its roots. Hopefully the high humidity will encorage more root growth or a keiki off
The stem. If this works and you get a good amounts of roots. Pot it up ideally in a clear pot but it doesnt have to be with pure medium grade orchid bark. The clear pot has the advantage of allowing you to see when the plant needs watering and allows the roots to photosynthesis. Feed it every 2nd or 3rd watering with a orchid fertiliser, dont be tempted to use a drip feed they are to strong, burn roots and only feed one area of the plant. Also make sure you use a orchid feed and dilute as the

@lydiastirling is there anyone to save this one or propagate a new one? Thank you in advance!

Instructions say. Normal liquid feeds are far to strong and will kill the plant.
Good luck
