Gardening is like cooking. To improve, you need to be willing to make mistakes and experiment. Also, common names are garbage. Zone 9b, West Sac, CA.

Happy April, plant geeks! Check out this pudgy Sceloporus occidentalis, a.k.a. western fence lizard or blue-belly. He was trapped in a bucket that had a few inches of rainwater in it. He was cold and sluggish when I fished him out, but the warm sunshine soon got him going. A few days later, I spotted him hanging out near my succulents. Or maybe it was some other chubby lizard. At one point, I was holding the pot upside down between my knees as my sister tugged repeatedly at the base of the plants. It was an awkward sight, I tell ya.

A hummingbird favorite. I keep meaning to divide them but never get around to. The desire to do so has literally haunted me for years.
