Repotted my #PileaPeperomioides a few days ago. She's got a bunch of pups, which I left alone. (Swipe to see the progress from when I acquired her over a year ago.) #easytogrow

From the Wikipedia entry: "In 1945, the species was found by Norwegian missionary Agnar Espegren in Yunnan Province when he was fleeing from Hunan Province. Espegren took cuttings with him back to Norway, by way of India, in 1946 and from there it was spread throughout Scandinavia." #PileaPeperomioides #chinesemoneyplant 27may2020

#Pileapeperomioides (#Urticaceae) is an Asiatic perennial herb that is native to Yunnan Province in Southern China at the foot of the Himalayas. For a long time, this plant has been a mystery. That is because this plant, like many other #Pilea, is insignificant in economic value (weedy), and like other Pilea, not much attention was paid to it. It was found to have been brought to Norway by a Norwegian missionary in 1946, upon the expulsion of religion and foreigners by Chairman Mao.
From Norway, it was distributed by friends to friends, and eventually all over the world as a houseplant. (Source: The Sill)

This is what happens when you don't regularly rotate your #PileaPeperomioides. Silver lining: Plant is healthy.

This weirdo managed to survive the mild Sacramento winter outdoors. You can't see the babies inside the pot, but I promise they're there.
Wow thats a cool one. Love how its growing
Is it the same one in the other picture u have if u scroll back?
@heatherdirtyhands it's part of the first one I posted. I separated it and gave one to my sister (2nd pic). BTW, instead of scrolling, you can just tap on this photo then swipe left.
I must find a Chinese-themed ceramic container (a.k.a. China) for this plant.
Yeah that's what I meant by scrolling lol
@heatherdirtyhands oh good 'cause actual scrolling would be kinda intense, ha ha
Lol. Yes

I gave my sister a #PileaPeperomioides and she made a pretty pot for it. We are such a great team.
Wow I love that pot 😍

The garden center I work at doesn't typically carry houseplants, so I was surprised to see a bunch of #Pilea-peperomioides among our backstock yesterday. Chose this one, which is actually a bunch of little plants in one pot. #chinesemoneyplant (Purchased 6Apr2019)
I’ve got one but he said it grows in water. It’s not doing too well so I put potting mix with it yesterday 🤞🏻
@Sussanah I don't know who "he" is but they are succulents and therefore prefer less water. More care info here: https://abeautifulmess.com/2018/08/caring-for-pilea-plants.html
I must have my pennies mixed up. Penny wort?
Ha! Looks similar, but not the same.
This plant seemed overpriced, but I used my employee discount at the garden center when I got it. Since then, it's been a #lowmaintenance delight. I love its unusual leaves, woody stem, graceful drape, etc. If you are hesitating to get one, I assure you: This beautiful weirdo is a winner. 28Oct2020
I have 2 of these.
I love how it gives the room character. I had always been hesitant on these guys. I’m for sure picking one up next time I see it. @misternatureboy
How do you #prop this? My friend has one at her studio, I’d love to trade her a cutting for some #jade
@fearlessthereforepowerful one method is to use a sterile blade to cut off a healthy leaf from a source plant. Very important that you include a little bit of the stem (as if you scooped the leaf out of the stem). Dip the bit with the stem in water and leave in a spot with bright, indirect light. In a few weeks, you should be able to see roots growing.
@rudester1 Woohoo! Excited for my commission, ha ha. Excited for you!
So just like a pothos or most of my herbs! Oh yay!!! Thanks 🙏🏼
@fearlessthereforepowerful Thou art most welcome! 🙂
