Itβs that time of year again! πππ Finished work at 5ish then decided to prune the Birch when I got home! I must not have done enough gardening this week!!! πππ #gardenerslife #birch #pruning #pruningbirch

Oh wow! Am thinking of planting a couple of these, how often do you prune them like this? Is it to keep them from turning into monsters? π

That's some serious pruning π

Hi Kim @Mikekally I give it a mega prune like this every 2-3 years as I only have a small garden it would get huge. Itβs fairly easy to do. They are fantastic trees and give good seasons of interest. You have to prune at this time of year (not in winter) as they can bleed a lot of sap and it can cause the tree to be stunted of even die off.

Thanks @mrsflowerpot we're needing to block the security lights from the house behind. landscapers are recommending two of these but am worried they'd be too tall to manage

Job worth doing ππΏπΏπΏ

Morning lovely garden folk! Itβs a bit of a more murky misty start to the day over here in South Yorkshire. Whatβs it like weatherwise where you are?? #weatherreport #mistystart #summer #shed #betula #silverbirch #mrsflowerpotsgarden #summerscorcher #summer2018

Hot in Swansea xx

Very foggy on the north east coast. I love that silver birch, it stands out so well!

Mornin/goodnight. Super fab day here. High 71Β°F and sunny. Lows tonight in the low 40sππ

Lovely garden! Lots of haar in Edinburgh. Hoping it will burn off later β π

I wonder if the mist has drifted over from your neck of the woods then @rbetts25 I must admit itβs a welcome sight after the soaring temps and no rain βοΈ

Goodnight Dar π @SikoMa

Maybe it will burn away and be scorchio again here this afternoon @Emma915Jones π₯π₯π₯

Thank you @embob π, hoping itβs a bit cooler here today 28c is not great working conditions with no shade when your a gardener!! π π π₯

Such a very pretty piece of paradise

Very misty here in West Yorkshire

Morning Beck, no mist but itβs quite dull. Yesterday started like this and it ended up being a gorgeous day π₯π₯

Lots and lots of birdies today! βοΈπ¦βοΈ π§βοΈπ€βοΈ #birds #birdies #wildlife #birdfeeder #birdbanquet #birdbuffet #love

Wow! Id love to have that many wild birds at once. I really enjoy watching them

My secret to success is only feeding them shelled sunflower seeds and the occasional fat ball. Iβve had up to 28/29 Goldfinches in the garden at once this winter. (nearly every day). I feel so blessed, Iβll send some your way Lottie ππ»π§π€ππ» @Lottie__O #birdfeeding-tip #birdfeedadvice

Oh Wow!! I do get some small birds but also a lot of magpies, black birds and pigeons even though I use seed to attract small birds

Yes we get a lot of wood pigeons and blackbirds and the odd magpie too, thatβs why i swapped to the straight husked sunflower seeds cos the little birds donβt tend to throw it everywhere which attracts less of the big birds. @Lottie__O ππ»ππ»

I do the same Beck and am also getting families of long-tailed tits, which I live and rarely see the rest of the year. PS Have you been out with your pan scrubber on the trunks?!

@mrsflowerpot will have to try that

No pan scrubber Jacqueline π@awomanonabike at this time of year the old bark just peels off in the wind ππ»ππ»βοΈ

Glorious sight π is the red one on the right also a chaffinch? Amazing colourπ

Heβs a beautiful male Bullfinch @Denise16 his lady friend is bottom left on the feeder in more of a buff pinkish Brown πππ

Ahhh wonderful π

Well it looks lovely π

This morning there were a lot of birdies in the garden!! At one count there were 28 Goldfinches, 3 blue tits, 3 Greenfinch, 1 great tit 1 blackbird and a fat garden turkey (aka wood pigeon) no partridge in a pear tree though!Do they know something we donβt?? Me thinks weβve got some snow heading our way over the next week! #birdwatch #gardenbirds #earlywarning #wildlife #birds

Wowser! Iβve had 1 starling and 2 robins so send some my wayπ Great capture of the suns raysβοΈ

Wow, you must do the bird watch in the New Year if this is a regular thing!

πππ Whenever I do the big garden birdwatch val, all my regular birds seem to disappear. I think itβs because everyone feeds them for that particular week!! @valjones-hughes

Isnβt that just typical Beck! Just have to enjoy them when they are there π₯

#pantsphotoalert but just had Mr and Mrs Bullfinch in the garden for dinner ππ»ππ»ππ» they are very jumpy hence the below parr photo. (Forgive me I was excited!!) #birds #wildlife #bullfinch #nature

Well spotted π

@mrsflowerpot wonderful! Have finally managed to get the #goldfinches so how do we attract #bullfinches?

Hi Hayley @hayleyaj I swear by shelled sunflower seeds as through trial and error have found that they attract the most birds and have the less mess. I buy a big 12.5kg bag and it lasts a good 3 months so it's well worth the investment. I also use red peanuts in a cage and have managed to attract a family of great spotted woodpeckers. If you can site the bird feeds either in or near a tree too. Don't go too tidy with the gardening as well cos they love a bit of chaos!!π§π¦π₯ #advice #tips #birds

@mrsflowerpot thanks, our sunflower seeds are in the wrong place then! We will move!

It's all trail and error @hayleyaj but that recipe seems to work for me. 'They' always suggest to put out Niger seeds for bullfinches but I tried it and ended up with thistles all over the garden so I gave that idea up as a learning experience π©

Evening Rebecca. Hope alls well with youππ

Birds are so hard to photo @mrsflowerpot thanks for the advice which I'll try when this lot of bird food runs out!
Morning all, Iβm not working today for a change as Iβm injured π€, so Iβve had a little time to watch the birdies in the garden. A whopping 32 Goldfinches were feeding in the garden this morning!! You can see their tiny silhouettes on the top of the trees in the photo. πππ #goldfinch #goldfinches #sickday #birdwatching #wildlife #birds
Wow, that's a lot of Goldfinch, the most I counted in my garden was 18, aren't they pretty little birds π hope your injuries not too bad π€
Wow how lucky are you π
They are fabulous little birds arenβt they @sieveheadsarah π₯π₯ I had a cortisone injection yesterday evening into my right shoulder joint due a injury that is getting worse. I am in agony but hopefully it will sort it out long term ππΌππΌππΌ, otherwise surgery here I come!
Ooh, I hope the injection works for you ππΌππΌ
Hope you see improvement soon, in the meantime, enjoy the birds π
