Ficus elastica

Lotsa leaf love for my beautiful Ficus Elastica /Burgundy. Some mature leaves are so huge now, I could use them as plates! 😂 Gorgeous gal has also been putting out a few new leaves every week or so (each on different branches of course). #ficuselastica

More new growth from my #ficuselastica. I'm enjoying watching my plants shoot up and out and come back to life after winter. This leaf I'm holding unfurled only two weeks ago, and another one is on its way! Who knew watching plants grow could be this exciting!

I cut the top leaf off my #ficuselastica a while back, and now I spy new leaves peeking out nearer to the base.

Ficus Burgundy apparently sprouted a new leaf while we were overseas.. Wondering if I should pinch it off to encourage better growth? #ficuselastica

@brightcolours nope. My local nursery guy told to wait till next year before trimming. It's been quite dormant during winter.. But I couldn't help myself, I trimmed a tip off one of the younger shoots a few days ago..

So happy to see these three burgundy baby leaves have popped out in the last week. #ficuselastica

You could try taping it together... but prune off down to lowest set of leaves.

Also add some mulch?

@brightcolours ahh too late I already snapped it off.. The lower leaves were drooping falling off. I will cut it down nearer to the base and mulch.

Found my poor Elastica this morning looking like it had done battle. I had noticed this particular shoot dropping leaves over the last few weeks. Not sure why it suddenly just keeled over. The other branches look pretty sturdy and healthy still, and there is even a new branch that started growing out of the soil a few weeks ago. Maybe it's just all part and parcel of a plant life cycle? #ficuselastica

Unusual for a ficus. Did it get knocked? I'd just prune that branch off low.

@brightcolours don't think it got knocked. It feels softer around the point where it bent/broke... Unless my cat has been parkour-ing amongst the plants in the night.. Lol
