The 'popcorn' part of the popcorn tree, or the Chinese Tallow Tree. The 'popcorn' will form in late summer to early fall for us down here and last until all the leaves change color and fall. It's something I've a lot of people around the south through the years use as a christmas decoration. Sometimes spray painted or simply stuck around into Christmas time arrangements.
