Crispy, dried up starfish flowers smell like spoiled fish sticks.
Lol

The petals have fallen off now I think a seedpod is forming? I did attempt to pollinate the flowers with one another.

End of the saga!

The second bloom is more perfect! Such a star! And yes, they do smell similar to dead fish in an aquarium at this time! It seems they produce different smells throughout the day! 🤢🤢🤢😁

The smell is very pungent. I would describe it as a "pleasant stink" somewhere along the lines of extra sharp cheddar, balsamic vinaigrette, garlic, sauerkraut etc. Not a repulsive rotting flesh smell like it's often descibed, in my opinion!

The boo-boo bloom is now getting too big and heavy to hold itself up!

These stumps were left after taking cuttings but now they are regrowing. Who knew?
Lmao! In the back of my mind I knew, that's why i didn't compost it lol. Stapelia are almost impossible to lose because they propagate so readily! I love them lol
No, I had to bring them in during hurricane Florence and all the buds withered away. Though back outdoors now, It's getting cooler so I doubt they'll bloom this year unfortunately.

Buds forming!
Ooh I forgot about that lol. I was keeping one indoors to see how it would fare. Maybe I'll keep that one dead-headed and just grow it for the greens! 😬😬😬
