I bought this Gunnera in the Isle of Wight 2 years ago. It has survived the winters and gets bigger and better. It's not by a pond or stream but I do have to water it well every day. It will be beautiful by winter.

Help me identify this plant. Not sure what variety. These are the last of my plums and apples. A poor year!

Andreamarie
The plums look like Victoria but not sure about the apples - maybe Worcester?

Thank you Andrea Marie. They were in when I bought the house, probably 30 years old.

#gunnera Who is growing one of these? Do you chop it down every winter?
@davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co can you help Linda 🤔
Itll die back in winter linda. Use the dead leaves to cover the crown, until the frosts have gone, and itll soon grow back next year.
Thanks @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co I took all the leaves off last year and covered the base with straw and the leaves. I didn't realise they died back anyway. So it just keeps growing bigger and bigger each year? Brilliant! Thanks! 😁
If its in the ground and can get enough water, itll be huge in no time. Ive got mine in a big tub.
Mine's getting big since I planted it in the ground & yours will too for sure
@davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co @jeatacake Mine has always been in the ground. I expect it to get at least 6' tall this year compared to last year. 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Hi Linda, I do the same as David and just fold the dead leaves over to cover the crown. Mine has been huge in the past but the last couple of years of being so dry has shrunk it somewhat - which is probably just as well 🙄😂 @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co
@awomanonabike Is yours by a pond or do you have to water it? I water mine every day, a lot, and it still wants more. So I think I'll water twice a day now as it's growing. 🤞
Mine is next to the run off from my pond, but there hasn’t been any until recently. I don’t water it. I’m ruthless I’m afraid. I only water plants in pots. Anything else is “Do or die”! Generally they do. I am in Cumbria after all 😉☔️ but we have just had the driest spring ever...
Mine would die! I love Cumbria, we visit a lot! But the mountains stop most of the rain getting to us in the North East. Our spring was so dry the leaves were falling off our big trees like Autumn! 😫 It's better now but I still have to water the Gunnera. 🌧️🌞
