I bought this agapanthus from B&Q stores when I was a just a teenager, and it’s got to be between 25-30 years old now. It has come with me to every garden I’ve ever lived with and it’s looking it’s best right now. #agapanthus #agapanthusheadbournehybrids

Thanks everyone! I just remember seeing one as a kid and thinking wow that’s a fantastic plant and then was fortunate to find one in the store whilst mum/dad where looking at other things. It took ages to get to flowering size, although everything seems much longer when your that age! 😆 @columbiariver @gjones @ShelleySnyder @italydiva @craigh7 @clipperty @midnightgardener @terrimclaughlin @flan1971 @novicegardenlover

One of my #Agapanthus has set #seed - never thought about saving it as it's a good size clump and already have plenty others. But has anyone have any experience growing them from seed? 🤔 #agapanthusheadbournehybrids

Richard.spicer.7906 yes Richard they grow so easily make sure you have enough friends to pass them on too.thats how I started my agapanthus collection with on stolen seed pod

Non-sterile Agapanthus is on the weed list in various parts of Australia because it grows so well from seed. #agapanthus-seed

@richard.spicer.7906 I've grown some from seed that my sister in law bought back from Australia. They took 4 years to produce a flower but are getting stronger each year. Good luck 😀

I have a tray on my kitchen window sill that have just germinated, I set them 3 weeks ago, I read different advice on the internet some said sow straight away, others wait to spring. Will see how it goes.

8w
comment
richard.spicer.7906

Well I guess I'm not gonna have time to do anything with them this side of Christmas so they'll probably just stay where they are. But I'll keep an eye on them and see if they germinate in the surrounding soil. Thanks for your advice everyone @KatieCat @bluebell66 @lisa868

Hi @Ricki - I tend to leave this particular variety in the ground/pot over winter. It's been tough as old boots! 😀 this one is not an evergreen variety so does back and regrow stage following spring. I realise this is not a general rule as some other agapanthus varieties are more tender than others.

comment
richard.spicer.7906

Hi @barbbrown - just had a look at your agapanthus photo. It looks healthy so I wouldn't worry, it might just need another year to fill out the pot. Keep it watered and fed as you are door and hopefully next year it will throw up a few more flowers. The key is to keep the roots quite restricted as this encourages flowering, even if it looks pot bound 😊👍🏼

My old faithful agapanthus is looking so healthy this year after I planted it back in the ground. This has been in and out of the ground and pots so many times over the last 20 years! Over 10 buds on it now 😁 #agapanthusheadbournehybrids #agapanthus

That's reassuring Richard, mine is about the same stage in bud. Thought it was a bit late, but should be worth the wait.
