Been potting on all my cuttings ready for spring growth. These Cryptomeria cuttings have grown quite a bit already, just losing their winter red colouring now and turning back green #cryptomeria #cryptomeria-japonica #cryptomeriajaponica #cryptomeriajaponicaelegans #japanesecedar

Did you have any success with the Japanese cedar cuttings? I tried several times and did not succeed. Any tip to share? 🙏🙏

Yes I did Jorge 👍🏼 @jorgediego I still have two going, but I did lose one although i think that was because it was already quite weak looking after they had all rooted and repotted. The trick is they need to have bottom heat for 3-4 weeks, then off the heat for similar, then on again and then off again. I did this right through the winter months indoors and they all rooted within 5-6 months. The other two are now about 30cm tall. I just used an electric heat mat to stand the pots on.

They need to be kept covered with a clear lid or something similar to keep humidity high, and only just a very free draining mix. I used 50% perlite and 50% compost. @jorgediego

28/05/19 - cataloguing propagation updates - when I first tried taking conifer cuttings about two years ago I failed miserably, but this time round I’ve done very well. They have been on a heated propagator, then off, then on, off - you get the picture. I’ve ended up with about 20 rooted cuttings 😄 - here, 3 out of 3 success for Crytomeria japonica 'Elegans', which has ability to change to a red colour in winter 🥶
