I’ve been growing a few of this particular cyclamen from bought seed in 2017, and they are developing well, second year leaves haven’t come through yet but the developing tubers are so tiny still, you could mistake them for granules in the soil! But I had the pleasure of visiting Ashwood Nurseries last week as part of my course and decided to take the opportunity to buy a pot of it as a backup 😉.... oh, and maybe a few others! 🤦🏼♂️😂
It’s one of their specialities - and it was very special to visit their stock glasshouse where they keep all the mother plants for propagation. They pot all of their cyclamen in clay pots (which is what I’ve started to do to) and they looked in amazing condition although they were undercover too. They re-pot them also every year, although the chap who gave us the cyclamen did say ideally he’d prefer to re pot every two years.
Cyclamen form tubers, the leaves and flowers emerge from the top, and roots emerge from the bottom. True to form, this is a beautiful silver pewter leaved group. This cultivar has a bit of variation in it, hence why they call it a ‘group’ rather than individual. This one will have pink magenta flowers #cyclamen #cyclamencoum #cyclamen-coum #cyclamencoumpewtergroup #foliage #silverfoliage #silver-foliage
Nice coloured leaves. They are slow to grow
That is superb foliage Rich @richard.spicer.7906
Really preeeeetyy !!
Interesting Rich, and gorgeous foliage 👍👍
Gorgeous Rich. There are definitely plants that prefer clay pots aren’t there - and they look so nice too 😃
They look fabulous! @richard.spicer.7906
Lovely foliage 😍
Love this one! 💚

And here's what they look like today - 23rd July. They have been outside in the growhouse in a shady spot now since the beginning of June. I'm trying to keep these going over summer without the developing tubers going dormant. I don't expect much new growth now on these until the end of the year, and then I'll start to pot them on individually.

After around 10 weeks, on the 2nd April, the seeds were showing signs of germination. I removed them from the dark warm cupboard to a brighter spot on the kitchen windowsill. In the close up on the bottom, you can see the remains of the seed case on the tip of the new leaf stalk. Even though it's tempting to pull these loose, don't. They degrade eventually and you risk damaging the emerging leaf.

Earlier this year, I thought I'd try my hand at growing Cyclamen from seed. I found a good selection at Ashwood nurseries, and started these off in January. From Top Left to Bottom Right.... 1) Seeds as arrived 2) prepare shallow pots with John Innes seed compost, some grit and small amount of silver sand mixed in to help with drainage 3) soak seeds for 24 hours in a washing up liquid solution - this helps degrade the outer sticky coating on the seeds which inhibits germination....
4) sow thinly on the soil surface (I used a pair of tweezers to space them out), then cover with a quarter inch layer of washed Horticultural grit. Water in lightly. I then kept them in a warm dark cupboard (my electricity cupboard 😂) at a constant temperature of between 15-18 degrees Celsius. Here they stayed for about 10 weeks.... (this was in January 2017)

I was just planning some of my winter flowers for the garden yesterday Richard I've got all my cyclamen from last year but this looks interesting I just might have a go..fab instructions and advice 👍
@mich 😊🙏🏼
Cheers John 😊 @ukjohnny
Here’s a better picture of the seeds @Puddings_pies
Yeah, but mine are green and sized like small peas. Maybe mine are baby coum's then?
Baby corms I think are pinky beige colour for cyclamen rather than green. But perhaps time will tell as they get bigger. The emerging leafs will definitely help on an ID.
@pottyplot - here’s the notes on when I sowed them 👍🏼
Thankyou thats very helpful
@treefrog44
Morning 👋🏼 - not the best photo but I couldn’t quite reach and balance and hold a camera at the same time to take this, as it’s at the back of the raised bed in the tunnel. It’s the first time my pewter cyclamen has flowered so wanted to catalogue the colour. But disappointed with the leaves this year on this, they were much more pewter in previous years, and there seems less of them. Might have kept it too dry last summer 🤔
So delicate Richard really lovely🤗
Morning Rich 💗💗💗
Morning Rich ..nice pink 🌸
The leaves look like the ones you see on water lilies 😍
