Sambucus 'Black Lace' (or 'Eva' as it is officially registered as, Black Lace is just a marketing/trading name!) - hardwood cuttings taken in autumn 2018 repotted. They were left for one whole season in their original pots as its all too tempting to repot hardwoods too quickly. Five taken and only two took but they both had a good root system on them so they’ve now been moved to new individual pots with fresh compost to grow away nicely this spring

Have u tried air layering with sambucus before?
Ooh love this species. The colours are amazing 😉
I want to take a cutting from my neighbours bush but it seems to take a long time.....🤔
Yep, love this too - and it’s one I DO have! Xx
No, I haven’t tried air layering. But my tutor told me once that you can almost layer any woody shrub but it’s the time it takes that’s a challenge. And also how easy to bend the stems down into the ground. Although air-layering would help with that rather than traditional layering @tinaaune
If you take 20cm stem pieces in November, pencil thickness, and just pop two thirds of it below the soil line in the border somewhere it will most likely root for you Sharon - but yes you’ll need to be patient unfortunately as it takes time @sharonhayden
Thanks Richard - they’re away - so nows a good time 😏🤔
Glad to see you’re managing to catch up on your posts!! 🤪
