24/05/19 - looks like my #Tamarix hardwood cuttings taken last winter have been successful, 6 out of 6 taken. Usually taken on deciduous shrubs, hardwood cuttings are taken on mature ripe wood at the end of the growing season and ideally its best to leave them till following autumn before thinking about transplanting. Just need a feed in spring once evidence of growth appears, and wait a bit longer for them to establish.
I know! I was just saying this the other day to the better half, and hardly see them in people’s gardens. Quite unnoticed too when not in flower @rachelbrooks
Thanks Paul 😄👍🏼 - it’s been one of my more successful cuttings. I’ve a few other hardwood cuttings and some have taken only half, and some even less than that - I only had one Viburnum 'Deben' take out of 5, but hey ho I’ve still got one 🤣 @Pablo
They are lovely aren’t they Jane? I’d never noticed one until this year, and there’s a lovely one a few streets away too. Never looked at them close up before till I saw a few on here. @pelly
@richard.spicer.7906.............Thanks for the info. Richard...........one of my neighbours has a Tamarix tree, and I want to take some cuttings.......will follow your advice later in the year...... Enjoy your weekend ........ Regards to St. Albans from Brighton............
