05/06/17. What is this growing around the soil of my cactus? #help #advice #mold #fungi #fungus #question #cactus #cactus-advice

@sarahflamingo It could be caused by lack of drainage • See if you can scrape off a layer and replace with a gritty top dressing

And cut down on the moisture if you can. Very dry, sandy gritty mix. Then you'll have perfect cacti 🌵

Thanks @ianshaw and @hayleyaj , that makes perfect sense because when I came to repot this little guy I ran out of the cacti soil so had to use half and half with normal potting soil.

This is my cactus. It is called a Pilosocereus Azureus on the tag but that is just a synonym of Pilosocereus Pachycladus (one in the same plant) if that made any sense. #cactus #succulent #pilosocereus #green #indoorplants #houseplant

What's the growth rate?

@purplecactus I'm not sure it's supposed to grow quite fast though.

What would you say it grows in a month?

@purplecactus well I've had mine for over a year now and it hasn't grown much but i think it wasn't in a big enough pot.

@sarahflamingo but noticeably grown compared to other cacti?

@purplecactus I couldn't really say because it wasn't it the right conditions but what I've read said they are fast growing.

Ah ok :) thanks for the help :D
16/12/18. Bit fell off! Should I just stick it in some soil or cut the dry bit off ect??

@cactusnut @Yollymac can you help?
@lydiastirling really sorry, this one isn't one I know.
Not sure but as no one else is helping...if it was a succulent leaf I would let it dry and callus over so it’s probably at that stage already then just rest on the surface of the soil and it would naturally seek out with new roots the damp soil. But as they are all pretty dormant at the mo it could take months before it wants any nourishment.
Thanks anyway guys @lydiastirling @Yollymac @chapelbarn I just found it loose on my cactus so it hasn't effected the main plant at all so if it grows woo new cactus and if it doesn't no harm done I guess.
@sarahflamingo Hello Sara, sorry to hear about your cactus, what I recommend you do if you haven't done already is cut that bottom damaged part and leave her out to callus over I say at least a week and once it does then replant it back into soil. Hope that helps
When this happens you can just let it dry and harden over the break then just plant in cactus mix and go easier on the water the first couple of weeks.
With cacti its best to let the wound heal and harden, large open wounds make it harder to keep alive. It can be done you just have to watch its water very carefully. Its best just to put it on a shelf in a cool dry area and wait a week or two before potting up.
Thanks @cactusnut I've cut it above the damaged area just in case and I am now waiting for it to callus over so I can plant it.
