If I chop down thistles that have flowered but whose seed heads haven’t yet opened, can I safely mulch them in situ without worrying about the down escaping? (e.g. in this photo I would bag the lower (opened) seed head and mulch the rest. Will that work?) There are a LOT of them, so I’m trying to limit myself to only removing the heads that have already opened - many hundreds even of those as I started way too late. :-( #thistle #weeding #help
I feel your pain!! I don't have thistles but do have similar problem with weeds. I now err on the side of caution especially as there are so many loose weeds along the stem... So I bag the whole plant and leave in hot sun to bake.
